The Twelve Days of Butter – Day 8

“The Crest” comes from our friends Justin and Katrina hiking the Pacific Crest Trail 2600 miles from Mexico to Canada. Inspiring stuff!

This song was the first the band learned together, and has become a workhorse for the band. In honor of our years together, band members past and present, and all the folks who have helped us live the dream, we put together a slideshow of photos from 2003-2014.

THE CREST Nat Keefe
Set out on your chariot

at the first gleam of light

this morning keep the sun on your right

your limbs won’t feel fatigue,

if you don’t have the need

to bathe in the bath you left at home
Not to run away

Just to live a day

to carry my load on my back and walk

on the Crest running next to the sea

the Crest running next to the sea—
The granite is smooth

and it begs her to move

and slither and slip its sexy ways

The water is clear

and he wouldn’t know it was there

but for the shadows of the ripples on the ground

I sit here in the city

on this concrete-broken ground

and think of my friends ot the East

They share the same sunlight

and they sleep the same at night

and walk a simple path a simple way

and walk a simple path a simple way
